Concentrating Your Study - As you take more and more sample tests you begin to get a feel for the topics that you know well and the areas that you are weak on. Many students waste a lot of valuable study time by reviewing material that they are good at (often because it is easier or makes them feel better). The most effective way to study is to concentrate on the areas that you need help on. Strengthening Your Problem Solving Abilities - As you practice with our sample questions, and review the provided explanations, you will increase your ability to solve problems. Solid problem solving skills will be crucial for you to achieve a passing score on your HESI exams, especially the mathematics portion.

Once the test day arrives you will have no surprises!. Improving Your Speed - The HESI A2 exams are all timed. Although most students who take the exam feel that there is sufficient time, taking the practice tests with self-imposed timers help you budget your time effectively. HESI A2 Scores Studies have shown a strong correlation between HESI A2 scores and first semester course grades and ultimately Nursing program completion. Each Nursing school chooses which of the subject tests (e.g., math, anatomy, etc.) that its prospective students need to take. After a student takes the exam, the institution will receive two types of scores: individual percentage based scores for each subject exam and an overall composite score for all of the exams that were taken by the student.
Each nursing program determines its own requirements for admissions - there are no minimum passing scores set by the exam creator (Elsevier). Elsevier and many institutions, however, do believe that a minimum composite score of 75% and minimum individual exam scores of 70% are required for a student to be successful in their Nursing program. Score guidelines for each of the subject tests are shown below: VOCABULARY AND GENERAL KNOWLEDGE Vocabulary knowledge has been shown to be an effective measure of adult IQ by several studies. Your vocabulary scores indicate:.
90% to 100% (Excellent) - Student has at least a tenth grade reading level. The student is capable of reading and understanding typical nursing textbooks. 80% to 89% (Very Good) - Student will most likely be successful in Nursing school, but may require additional reading time for comprehension. Student will also spend more time determining the meaning of terms that they do not know. 75% to 79% (Satisfactory) - Reading assignments will be harder and require more time for a student. Student may require additional tutoring. Below 75% (Needs Improvement) - Student will require more formal help in reading and vocabulary prior to entering the Nursing program.
MATH The HESI math test evaluates a student's math skills at a minimum tenth grade level. Your math scores can be evaluated as follows:. 90% to 100% (Excellent) - Student demonstrates ability to calculate all levels of medication administration. 80% to 89% (Very Good) - Student is capable of calculating basic medication administration but should seek help to calculate higher level calculations. 75% to 79% (Satisfactory) - Student will need assistance in performing medication calculations. Below 75% (Needs Improvement) - Student will require formal math remediation, either prior to entering a nursing program or with entry level courses.
GRAMMAR The HESI A2 Grammar test assess a student's basic grammar skills at a tenth grade level. The grammar scores indicate:. 90% to 100% (Excellent) - Students are fully capable of producing grammatically correct writing assignments with little difficulty. Student should be capable of understanding typical nursing textbooks.

Below 75% (Needs Improvement) - Student should attend a English/Grammar remediation program prior to entry into a Nursing program. READING COMPREHENSION The HESI Reading test evaluates a student's comprehension and basic reading skills at a tenth grade level.
The reading comprehension scores predict:. 90% to 100% (Excellent) - Student is fully capable of reading and understanding a typical nursing textbook. 80% to 89% (Very Good) - Student should comprehend most of the information in a Nursing textbook, but may need to spend more time on more complex topics. 75% to 79% RN/70% to 79% PN (Satisfactory) - Students may struggle keeping pace with heavy reading assignments.
Below 75% RN/Below 70% PN (Needs Improvement) - Student will require more formal help in reading. SUBJECT TESTS (ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, BIOLOGY) These tests attempt to evaluate a student's understanding of the subject matter.
These tests are typically given if a nursing program requires the subject as a pre-requisite. 90% to 100% (Excellent) - Student displays a thorough knowledge of the subject. HESI Practice Tests are one of the most effective ways to study for your Nursing Entrance Exam. The sample questions give you a feel for how the actual test will be delivered. In addition, studying with sample practice questions allows you to assess what areas you are strong on and what areas you are weak on.
Preface: This is a study guide going over the topics that I saw and studied for the BRCC Spring 2018 HESI A2, and these subject categories and topics may change for future exams. I cannot guarantee the long-term efficacy of this study guide. This guide will outline basic concepts and ideas that must be known, I will not be explaining or providing examples or explanations of concepts unless requested. Lastly, the Elsevier HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review Book has wonderful chapters explaining and covering some of the information covered below.
I have included topics in my study guide that were not touched in this workbook that showed up on my exam. While this study guide can be used to study for any school’s HESI A2, I will only include the categories relevant to my school (Baton Rouge Community College, BRCC). Simple Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division. Exponents. Order of Operations (PEMDAS). Ratios/Proportions. Understating ratios and proportions, and the different ways they can be written or presented to you.
Solving for a certain ratio or proportion. Fractions. Simplifying improper fractions. Addition, subtraction, division and multiplication of fractions.
Percentages. Percentage to fraction conversions. How to calculate percentages from a given number (i.e. Due to the format of the reading comprehension section, there is no real study guide I can make for you. The best way to to succeed on this section is to practice as many reading comprehension questions as you can online or through a prep book.
Tips:. Read the question carefully and make sure you understand exactly what it is asking.
Apply only what you read from the section it asks and not the overall article. Read through the answers to eliminate possible options. Tones of authors in articles are generally either neutral or opinionated/strong. Another section that is very hard to provide, I really suggest that you either get or borrow the Elsevier HESI A2 Prep Book and study the vocabulary terms provided. There’s 3-4 pages of straight vocabulary in the book.
Here are some medical terminologies and medical setting appropriate vocabulary that I have listed below, but the majority of the words were general vocabulary terms you might find on the SAT or ACT sections.
Becoming a nurse is a complicated process, as you may already know. Health-industry workers must have the best training and possess extensive knowledge from various fields in order to offer patients the best possible care. I’ll be presenting you with a list of comprehensive educational materials that are meant to prepare you for the Test and have you on your way to becoming a nurse. As you know, the HESI A2 Test requires the examinee to have mandatory knowledge of various concepts from different fields, such as mathematics, chemistry, biology, anatomy, English and more. This nerve-wrecking 5 hour and 15 minute exam is an important milestone for every person that’s aspiring to become a nurse, so you should prepare very thoroughly if you relate. Below, I have conducted a list of learning materials that are specifically written to aid you in passing the HESI Admission Assessment exams with flying colors. In the following review we’ll be covering products that you might stumble over while researching for books and products that I thought were perfect examples of how a Study Guide should be structured and written.
Let’s get to it! Please note, all external links for the products below (geni.us links, etc.) link to the corresponding Amazon.com page for each product. Best Overall HESI A2 Study Guide Founded in 1880, Dutch company Elsevier has built a 137 year legacy in providing informative materials.
Active in fields such as medicine, science and technology, this world-wide publisher is now responsible for providing both printed and electronic materials that will give readers a lot of reliable and precise knowledge relevant to the previously-mentioned fields. The HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review, 4e, along with the other materials I’ll be presenting you with, are all written in a way that will systematically address problems and explanations for each field that’s going to be present on the HESI Admission Assessment exam. I’ll be starting this review with a product that offers, in my opinion, the best value and the best structure and content for the money you’re paying. What you get when purchasing the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review, 4e: 1) A 25-question pre-test 2) A 50-question comprehensive post-test 3) A total of 3 practice tests The overall best pick on the list (based solely on my opinion), the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review, 4e will provide readers with a well-structured and comprehensive learning experience. It’s very important to mention that this learning material has been written by the maker of the exam, giving you that “insider” information at an affordable price.
Oracle r12 gl api guide. Because of the way it's been written, the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review, 4e, will have you asking questions before diving into the actual tests in order for you to better assess where your strengths lie and improve where you see fit. The 160 pages of questions and practice tests are more than enough to prepare you for one of the biggest steps you’ll be taking for your future career. The three full-practice tests and the 50 post-test questions will polish your science, maths and English notions in no-time. Although not the cheapest option on the list, the Assessment Exam Review, 4e offers, by far, the best value, and its drawbacks are very limited. Well, to be honest, just one drawback: it features some print errors that won’t, in any way, negatively impact your learning process. Pros + Written by the marker of the exam + 25 question pre-test that will focus on determining your areas of strength and weakness before preparing for the exam + Very well-structured and offers very detailed explanations for the questions Cons - Contains some typos Best Value HESI A2 Study Guide Published under Trivium Test prep, a company that’s focused on offering informative materials for future college students, this next study guide I’ll be covering is already a safe pick.
Trivium Test Prep is a publisher that focuses on writing well-researched study guides for a big number of exams, ranging from the COMPASS to the PERT exams. Seeing as the publisher always respects a solid format when releasing new guides, the formula it applies to all of its study materials has proven to be infallible and successful throughout the years. Let’s face it - it’s a guide that’s written with great attention to detail, a guide that will carefully tackle problems, step by step, and will address every area that you need to cover in your future HESI A2 exam, giving you in-depth explanations and definitions for the new concepts that you’ll be required to learn before starting your education. What’s important to mention is that the HESI A2 Study Guide will mainly be focusing on the information, putting the test in the background (although it will still cover the test itself). When purchasing the HESI A2 Study Guide, you’ll be getting one full practice test. Whether or not this guide is for you, that’s not for me to decide. In my opinion, this is a great learning material, and I’ll tell you why: It’s not only preparing you for a test.
It’s frustrating to see how many learning products are only focusing on the test, ignoring the learning process to a great extent. I remember that I extensively used practice tests to practice for my college exam and when I actually took it, 60% of the subjects that were present on my exam sheet weren’t covered at all by the test books I’ve used. It’s important for a study guide to focus on the information more than the test, and this guide does just that. Even though it offers only one practice test, I’m pretty certain that the test you’ll be taking from this guide will be very close to the real HESI A2 exam. While this is a great overall guide, it seems that print errors are a fairly common problem with these types of materials (although I can’t explain this phenomenon). Again, the HESI A2 Study Guide will contain some typos and misprints, but these won’t affect the learning process.
Pros + In-depth overview of the concepts + Practice questions are very similar to what you’ll be getting on the real exam Cons - Some mistakes and editing errors throughout the book #3 Best Overall HESI A2 Study Guide Now that we’re well in the middle of the review, you’re probably starting to see a pattern. Our next product is produced by yet another education-oriented publisher, Mometrix.
From what I can tell, Mometrix is one of the largest publishers that focus on study guides and flashcards. You’d be impressed to see how many materials Mometrix has released over the years, obtaining invaluable experience in the industry that will reflect on the quality of its products. I won’t continue to bore you with specifics regarding the publishers. Instead, I’ll focus on their HESI A2 Secrets Study Guide, a standard educational book written for the sole purpose of training you to pass the HESI A2 exam. While it’s pretty similar to the other books I’ve mentioned on the list, it’s got some tricks up its sleeve, and I’ll be revealing them shortly. The 222 pages of information, paired with a conclusive practice test, will get you on the right track to becoming a nurse.
The HESI A2 Secrets Study Guide comes with one full practice test. The HESI A2 Secrets Study Guide is a comprehensive guide for the HESI A2 exams, offering in-depth explanations for all of the topics that you’ll be facing when applying for a school. What’s neat about this one is that it offers you tips and tricks on how each section is conducted, giving you an engaging and dynamic learning process, which is very important in keeping you constantly motivated during your studies. Another feature that gives this pick an edge over the previously-mentioned guides is the fact that, by purchasing this guide, you’re unlocking video lessons offered by the Mometrix Academy, a recent feature implemented by the publisher.
While I’m no expert, I’m pretty certain that video lessons offer you a better learning experience because the information is presented and explained to you in higher detail. Although the HESI A2 Secrets Study Guide is a great choice, the fact that it's lacking in the vocabulary sections can make it inferior to our previously mentioned products, although it shouldn’t reflect on the overall quality of the guide which can be very useful if you already have a good grasp over these core concepts. Pros + Shows you tips and tricks on how each section of the test is conducted + Concepts and principles aren’t simply named or described in passing, but are explained in great detail Cons - The vocabulary section is somewhat lacking #4 Best Overall HESI A2 Study Guide If, during your research for educational materials, you’ve stumbled, by chance, on this Hesi A2 Study Guide, you’ll notice that the publisher isn’t mentioned anywhere. The fact that this product is independently published seems kind of shady, as the HESI A2 exams are a milestone in the lives of aspiring nurses and training guides for these exams should be carefully written and edited by professionals with experience in the educational field. Although I’m not saying that you should dismiss this product entirely, this is the first guide that we’ll be covering by starting with one of its drawbacks.
Publisher aside, the guide isn’t too bad. It still gives valuable information regarding the sections that will be covered in the tests and throughout its 194 pages you’ll be finding a lot of helpful explanations that will be useful in preparing for the HESIs.
The HESI A2 Study Guide comes with 2 practice tests. What’s nice about this guide is that it’s pretty concise and on-point when it comes to the information it offers. You won’t see a lot of fluff in its 194 pages, and fluff content can be a bit distracting, although it can offer you a bit of a “mental break”, so you decide if that’s helpful or not.
Another thing that’s nice, but not unique, is that the two practice tests it features will be very similar to the real test you’ll be taking, getting you well-prepared when answering the real questions. That being said, the drawbacks are bigger and have a more negative impact on the content when compared to the previously-reviewed products.
The structure of the sections is all over the place - you’ll constantly find yourself struggling to find information that’s very awkwardly placed. Even worse, this guide features 0 illustrations, making it very bland and hard to follow, which was already an issue to begin with.
Pros + Concise and to the point, no fluff + Questions are similar to those from actual exam Cons - The structure is hard to follow and understand - Has no illustrations, which makes it even harder to follow Budget Pick HESI A2 Study Guide Wrapping up our review, I’ll be featuring a different studying tool compared to what we’ve previously dissected. Another “unknown publisher” manual, this one doesn’t seem as shady as the guide we’ve discussed before.
Instead, this is a pleasant surprise. Even though the HESI A2 Practice Tests 2016 doesn’t have any publisher to back it up, users are overall pleased with the product. This isn’t a guide, it is (as the name implies) a test book. It features over 800+ questions and answers that are similar to the ones you’ll be confronting on the actual HESIs. The HESI A2 Practice Tests 2016 is also the cheapest book on our list. When buying the HESI A2 Practice Tests 2016, you’ll be getting 800+ questions with answers and detailed explanations.
What’s nice about this book is the fact that you can use it to further test your knowledge after studying from a proper guide. The 252 pages of questions will be enough to paint the picture for the coming HESI Admission Assessment exam and will give you more confidence when confronted with the real deal. You should consider buying this in addition to one of the guides I’ve previously mentioned, as it’s best used under those conditions. Pros + TONS of practice exams + Exams are similar in length, structure, question type, and degree of difficulty to the actual HESI Admission Assessment Cons - Only practice tests and explanations, no review Our Suggestions Hopefully, this list will give you some materials that will be helpful in your journey to becoming a nurse. Buy one, two, or each and every one of them, they’ll still provide helpful information and prep you for the HESI Admission Assessment exam. Remember, practice makes perfect - don’t underestimate the use of these Study Guides.

HESI A2 Study Guide Customer Success Stories Our customers love the tutorial videos from Mometrix Academy that we have incorporated into our HESI A2 test study guide. The HESI A2 Secrets Study Guide reviews below are examples of customer experiences. I was quite impressed with this study guide.
It doesn’t mess about and gets straight to the point. I would prefer to read this guide that’s put together without fluff, three or four times, without having to wade through unnecessarily flowery chapter introductions and conclusions I’ve seen in other guides. I just need to ace this test. The beginning of the guide also offers and equally terse, yet helpful, general test taking guide and list of tricks and pitfalls built into the HESI A2.
HESI A2 Study Guide – theflask This book is awesome, I would rate this product as a 5 all because I was sold after viewing the information on this website. After going through some of the study questions I knew I had to get the book. After viewing the book I noticed that some of the similar information in the book that helps to answer the questions on the website. I think this book will be very helpful to my success on this test. Thank you for this product of motivation.
HESI A2 Study Guide – Tracy Very informative and sophisticated approach to successfully taking the HESI. The book is written in a very detailed way but also in a format that is easy to understand with information that is easy to retain (if using the book’s methodology correctly). The book literally covers everything about it and answered many of my questions that I had, it definitely relieved me of much apprehension about taking the test and I know I will do much better now that I am much more informed due to reading this. There are a lot of great test taking tips and techniques and I found many things that I haven’t seen in the 2 previous HESI books that I had read before this, it definitely stands out to me and went way above and beyond my expectations HESI A2 Study Guide – Lucidity I was very satisfied with this e-book!
I applied to a nursing school and found out that I needed to take the A2 within 10 days of applying. I needed a study guide right away, and ordering an actual book was not an option for me.
I couldn’t afford to pay the extra money to have it shipped overnight. I ordered the e-book and it went directly to my computer. I started studying the same day I schedule my test date. This study guide was extremely helpful, and without it I don’t think I would have passed the A2 with such a good score. I passed it with an above average score the first (and only) time that I took it, surpassing the school’s average score, which was lower than the score that was needed to qualify students for admission consideration.
Thank you Mometrix! HESI A2 Study Guide – bournecb I have really liked this study guide. I was expecting it to be a very thick book that I was going to have to leaf through and try to figure out what to study, but to my surprise it is a very small book. I love that it gets to the point with the contents. I am a person who likes to read things thoroughly, so I love that I can sit down and read this study guide cover to cover and then go back and study with it some more.
Over all, I really like this study tool! HESI A2 Study Guide – Mikala I am very pleased with HESI A2 Secrets from Mometrix. The book offers direct explanations and suggestions for the test. All content within HESI A2 Secrets has value (no fluff). While some of the content may seem almost elementary (for example, converting decimals to fractions), such refreshers are quite beneficial as I have not had the need to solve such inquires in some time.
Humbly, I expect to perform well on the HESI and thank Mometrix for their products. I’m very happy to have purchased HESI A2 Secrets. HESI A2 Study Guide – Robert With this guide, taking the HESI doesn’t have to be a terrifying experience. It’s natural to be apprehensive when one’s future is riding on the results of a single test, but with proper preparation a person can relax, knowing that they’re fully ready to meet the challenge. A central part of the necessary preparation is to make use of a top notch HESI study guide, and this one would be an excellent choice. It’s written on a level that allows everyone to benefit from it. It’s scholarly enough to handle the material, but conversational enough that a person doesn’t have to be an intellectual to absorb the contents.
It also covers all the bases when it comes to helping a student learn the material that is actually going to be on the test, which allows a person to focus on reviewing the things that can really impact their score, instead of getting bogged down by trying to brush up on everything they’ve learned up until this point, no matter how trivial. It’s possible to spend more for a study guide for the HESI, and to find one that’s longer. Repair manual 1995 force outboard motor. But neither one is necessary.
HESI A2 Secrets Study Guide is more than adequate for preparing for the test, and I recommend it to everyone. HESI A2 Study Guide – Jean This study guide is a key to me passing the Hesi test so that I can apply to the nursing program this following semester. I really liked the test taking tips. As I am not the greatest when it comes to taking tests. I tend to get nervous and freak out.
So any kind of tips to help ease my anxiety is greatly appreciated. It’s been a while that I have gone over all these subjects so the way it’s broken down is amazing. HESI A2 Study Guide – Maria I definitely rate it 5 because the tips and ideas for how to study and just other ideas of what will be needed for my test are extremely helpful. Some of the things I would not have even thought about before going in to my test. I have really enjoyed the practice tests and all the codes along the way to go online for more information on.
I have found it very helpful if there is something I find I need a little more help with. I feel like I will be well prepared for my test when the day comes! HESI A2 Study Guide – Customer I recently purchased HESI A2 Secrets Study Guide: HESI A2 Test Review for the Health Education Systems. This study guide is DEEP! It’s very in depth yet simple to understand. I was really surprised with how they could take such a complex exam, and make it honestly VERY, VERY easy!! They pack a very large amount of content in only 179 pages.
It really helped me reach my goals for the test, and I ended up passing with flying colors. I bought this along side the flashcards because I was worried I wouldn’t be able to pass. It’s well worth it!! So good it almost feels like cheating!! So glad I made these purchases! They break the test down into it’s sections.Math -Science -Chemistry -Anatomy and Physiology -Professional Practice It then has a TON, and I mean a TON of test taking tips and strategies!
It really made a difference for mean. I couldn’t recommend these enough! It’s a great buy for those of us who have trouble taking test and NEED to pass! HESI A2 Study Guide – Calvin It isn’t easy finding the right study guide or other product for the A2 exam. There are quite a few to choose from, but many of them are more like textbooks than study guides.

I wanted something that was both in depth, but manageable, and easy to use and understand. Turns out, this is the book I was looking for.
I have to admit I was hesitant to get it at first, because there are so many choices I was worried about not picking the right one, but finally decided I’d go with this book. I’m glad I did. If you’re worried that it’s not comprehensive enough and that you need a 600 page study guide that could double as a doorstop, you can relax.
Like they used to say in the old spaghetti sauce commercial, “It’s in here.” The instructional portion of the guide has been researched and written professionally, and it’s quite extensive in its coverage. It’s sort of the Goldilocks approach to prepping for the A2 – not so little information that you’re left scratching hour head, and not so much that you’re overwhelmed and lost, but just the right amount of review to get you up to speed. Plus, there’s a great practice test included with answer explanations – so it’s pretty thorough. If you want to pass the A2, you won’t go wrong getting this study guide.

As part of their application process, many nursing schools across North America use the HESI A2 as an entrance examination. It’s a diagnostic tool, but it’s also a screening tool.
Nursing schools have always received far more applications every year than they can possibly approve, and the problem has been getting increasingly worse for the past few decades. Because of the steadily rising population in the United States, the demand for healthcare workers in all fields is growing, including nursing. In addition, the number of people interested in nursing careers continues to grow every year. However, colleges and universities haven’t added many nursing programs in recent years. Creating and developing a new nursing program takes years and years, and tens of millions of dollars. Making the problem worse, qualified nursing instructors are very hard to find.
For all these reasons, there aren’t nearly enough open slots in nursing programs to allow everyone who wants to attend nursing school to do so. On top of that, many people who apply to nursing schools simply aren’t qualified for the academic rigors of a nursing education. Due mainly to these two factors, colleges and universities need some screening tools in order to determine which applicants are the very best candidates for their programs. Of course, one of the two main factors they use in making their admission decision is the applicant’s high school GPA, or grade point average.
It’s simply a fact – the better you did in high school, the better your chances of being admitted to a nursing program. The other factor is the HESI exam.
A set of great HESI scores, in combination with an excellent academic record in high school, gives a person an excellent shot at. In fact, excellent scores can help make up for a less than stellar high school GPA. That’s because the test is specifically designed to predict which test takers have what it takes to succeed in a nursing education program.
So when you sit down and finally take the HESI, you want to make sure you’re absolutely prepared to do well, because your results truly can make or break your chances of being accepted. What’s the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Like? The HESI is different from many standardized admissions exams in its format. With most college admission exams, such as the SAT or ACT, every person takes the same basic test. There are different versions, to prevent cheating and for research purposes, but with most standardized exams each test taker will see the same kinds of questions, and will have the same time constraints. With the HESI, though, colleges and universities have a lot more flexibility. There are seven main components that make up the full exam, and schools can choose which ones they want their applicants to take.
They can also set their own time limits for each part of the test, although many nursing schools use the time limits recommended by Elsevier, the company that develops the HESI. What’s on the HESI Exam? The seven tests fall into three categories – English, Math, and Science. Here are the seven tests, the number of questions for each, and the recommended time limit. Reading Comprehension: 55 questions 60 minutes. Vocabulary and General Knowledge: 55 questions 60 minutes.
Grammar: 55 questions 60 minutes. Basic Math Skills: 55 questions 50 minutes. Biology: 30 questions 25 minutes. Chemistry: 30 questions 25 minutes. Anatomy and Physiology: 30 questions 25 minutes On each of these sections, there will be five questions that don’t count toward your score. Elsevier uses these five experimental questions for research purposes, with the goal of improving future versions of the HESI.
However, you should do your best to answer each question correctly, as you will have no way of knowing which ones are experimental and which ones aren’t. You should also be aware that there are rumors that Elsevier may be adding a physics component to the HESI exam in the near future, but as of this writing, Physics is not part of the test. Many nursing programs require applicants to take all seven.
